Grande Reverso Day/Night, Limited Thailand Edition · Ref. Q380841G
The Grande Reverso Day/Night Limited Thailand Edition, “One of 39,” holds a particularly meaningful place in my collection. It was one of the pieces that inspired me to look beyond the watch itself and explore how a Reverso can become a canvas for local history, culture, and identity.
The limited edition of 39 pieces carries a special resonance for Thailand. The number 3 represents the three primary colors featured on the national flag of Thailand. The number 9 symbolizes King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the ninth monarch of the Chakri dynasty, who reigned for 70 years until his passing in 2016.
What makes this edition especially memorable to me is its extraordinary yellow dial, a color rarely seen among Reverso editions. Its warm tone symbolizes the light of dawn, while yellow also holds a deep connection to King Rama IX and the Thai monarchy.
The reverse side features a charming engraving of Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, which beautifully embodies the blend of Hindu-Buddhist cultural heritage, while the symbolism of dawn suggests renewal and new beginnings.
For me, this Reverso brings together several things I value in collecting: the history of Jaeger-LeCoultre, the unique character of a limited edition, and a personal connection to my own country. It is a beautiful example of how the reverse side of a Reverso can tell a story that goes far beyond the watch itself.
A Reverso collector in Thailand who shares the collection on Instagram as @jlc.reverso. The pieces here follow one thread: the Reverso as a record of history, from a coloured dial of 1933 and the first complicated Reverso of 1991 to editions made for Thailand and Kuwait, a tourbillon given a dial of its own, and Mucha’s Spring in enamel.
