Reverso Tribute Enamel Alfons Mucha “Spring”, yellow gold · Ref. Q39314M2 · 2018

Jaeger-LeCoultre has always used the Reverso as a canvas for artistic expression, and its guilloché and enamel pieces are among the examples I admire most.

In 2018, the Manufacture paid tribute to Czech Art Nouveau artist Alfons Mucha with three Reverso Tribute Enamel pieces inspired by his celebrated 1896 series The Seasons: Spring, Summer, and Autumn. Each version was produced in only eight pieces.

The “Spring” version is housed in yellow gold. On the front, a sunburst guilloché pattern is covered by translucent Grand Feu enamel, while the reverse features a miniature enamel reproduction of Mucha’s Spring, surrounded by intricate hand engraving. More than 100 hours of craftsmanship were required for the enamel and engraving alone.

For some time, I had been looking for a yellow-gold Reverso combining guilloché and enamel. I find this combination particularly beautiful, and it is something Jaeger-LeCoultre has produced only very selectively.

Among the three Mucha pieces, I chose Spring not only because of its colors and how naturally they complement the warmth of yellow gold, but also because of what the season represents.

Spring carries the idea of renewal, growth, optimism, and a new beginning. Mucha expresses this through a young woman beneath a blossoming tree, surrounded by the freshness and delicacy of the new season. I have always liked watches that carry a positive meaning beyond their aesthetics, and this symbolism made Spring the natural choice for me.

The fact that only eight examples were made certainly adds to its rarity, but that was never the main reason I wanted it. For me, this Reverso brings together several things I particularly appreciate about Jaeger-LeCoultre: traditional craftsmanship, artistic expression, rarity, and, most importantly, a story and meaning that make the watch much more personal.
