The BRDC was founded in 1928 over a series of legendary dinners hosted by Dr J.D. Benjafield, after he and Sammy Davis won the 1927 Le Mans 24 Hours in a wrecked Bentley — repaired by torchlight, headlights replaced with a hand torch. The club’s emblem shows the Razor Blade, at 47 cm the narrowest racing car of its day. The link runs deeper than decoration: Jaeger supplied dashboard instruments to Bugatti, Bentley, Maserati, Panhard and Aston Martin’s predecessor Bamford & Martin.
