A Father’s Treasure

For his birthday in 2018, Cho Hyunchul’s five-year-old son Yoonjae painted his portrait — a round face, one eye larger than the other, a few strokes of hair. It meant enough that his father wanted it with him every day, so he had it engraved on the back of a Reverso Classic bought in Seoul that May, complete with the date and the words “from YJ” in the boy’s own hand. It is his most prized possession, and he is already planning to give it away: “When my son is a grown man, and perhaps himself the father of his own family, I will give him the watch to remind him of the touching moment when he gave his father this wonderful birthday gift.”
