Artistic Edition
The Reverso taken off the wrist entirely — twice over, decades apart.
← Back to StoriesThe Reverso worn as a necklace turns out to have two distinct chapters. In the 1990s, Jaeger-LeCoultre catalogued a “Reverso Pendentif”: a cross-shaped 18-carat gold mount, its edges diamond-set, holding a small reversible Reverso watch that pivots on cabochon-sapphire posts within the frame — the ordinary reversible mechanism, simply relocated from the wrist to a pendant on a navy silk cord. Then in 2023, at Watches & Wonders Geneva, the idea returned in a completely different form: a High Jewellery bolo-cord necklace with the Reverso case built into a sliding pendant, presented as the latest step in a genuinely old thread of feminine Reversos worn as brooches, handbag clips, or pendants since shortly after the 1931 original. It follows more specific precedent too: the vintage reference table separately includes a unisex pendant Reverso (ref. 205) from the 1930s. The 2023 line has appeared in several colourways: an all-diamond bolo cord with black onyx tassel tips, and beaded versions mixing gemstones — turquoise and coral, or onyx and jade — with pavé gold segments.

An earlier, distinct pendant design from the same catalogue family as the ref. 465.1.86 piece cited above: a cross-shaped 18-carat gold mount, its outer edges set with diamonds, holding a small reversible Reverso watch that pivots on two cabochon-sapphire posts within the frame — the miniature reversible mechanism carried over intact, just set inside jewellery rather than worn on the wrist. Worn on a navy silk cord through a diamond-set loop. This reference’s reverse panel (opposite the dial) is left as plain polished gold.

The sibling reference to the piece above, sharing the same cross-shaped gold and diamond mount, cabochon-sapphire pivot posts, and navy cord — but with the suspension loop set with diamonds and baguette-cut sapphires together rather than diamonds alone, and its reverse panel (opposite the dial) fully pavé-set with diamonds instead of left plain.

The most restrained colourway in the line: a fully pavé diamond bolo cord, with no coloured beads strung along its length, converging into a diamond-set Reverso pendant whose case-back carries an Art Deco geometric pattern in black against the diamond field. The cord continues below the pendant as two diamond-set strands, each ending in a long black onyx cylindrical tassel tipped with a diamond. Confirmed via Jaeger-LeCoultre’s own Watches & Wonders 2023 presentation of the Reverso Secret Necklace — likely the base design the turquoise/coral and onyx/jade beaded colourways build from.

A bolo-style necklace of two bead strands — round turquoise beads alternating with coral-pink beads and diamond-pavé gold segments — that converge into a pavé gold Reverso pendant with an Art Deco geometric pattern picked out in turquoise, coral, and black across the case-back. Below the pendant, the cord continues as two diamond-set gold strands, each ending in a turquoise cylindrical tassel tip capped with a diamond. No written description or reference is available for this piece; details here are drawn from photographs alone.

The same bolo-necklace construction as the turquoise and coral version, in a different palette: black onyx beads alternating with jade-green beads and diamond-pavé gold segments, converging into a pavé gold Reverso pendant whose Art Deco case-back pattern is picked out in green and black rather than turquoise and coral. The tassel tips at the end of each cord are jade rather than turquoise. As with the piece above, no written description or reference number is available; details here are drawn from photographs alone.
