# George Mason Flower

A board appointment at George Mason University’s business school became the reason for a first Reverso: green dial to the front, and on the back, the school’s colors reimagined as a hand-decorated Art Deco floral engraving rather than a literal crest.

## George Mason Flower

A seat on a business school’s advisory board, marked not with a tie or a lapel pin but with a first Reverso — and a flower in the school’s green and gold.

Reverso, green dial

My Reverso began with an appointment that was meaningful to me personally: joining the Advisory Board of George Mason University’s Costello College of Business. I wanted something that would commemorate my affiliation with the University, but I didn’t necessarily want the traditional expression of school colors through a tie, lapel pin, or another piece of university memorabilia. As a lifelong watch enthusiast, it seemed much more natural to mark the occasion through a watch. The Reverso was the perfect canvas and importantly, I didn’t yet have one in my collection. I have always appreciated the Reverso’s history and its origins in polo in India, which gave me the additional reason for selecting it. George Mason’s green and gold then became the inspiration for the design.

I chose a beautiful radiating green dial and dark green strap for the visible side of the watch. But the part that makes it truly personal is revealed when the case is reversed: an engraved floral motif hand decorated by JLC incorporating rich green foliage and vibrant yellow gold trumpet flowers with subtle red accents arranged in a distinctly Art Deco, radiating fashion. I deliberately chose not to simply reproduce a university logo or put the school’s name on the case. I wanted the connection to be more subtle, artistic and personal. When I put the watch on my wrist, the colors immediately remind me of George Mason and of my relationship with the institution, while to everyone else it can simply be appreciated as a beautiful piece of decorative art.

That is what makes personalized watches so interesting to me. The watch itself tells time, but the personalization marks a time in your life.
