The longest artistic project in the Reverso’s history. It began in 2018 with *The Great Wave off Kanagawa*, then turned to Hokusai’s eight-print series *A Tour of the Waterfalls of the Provinces* — the first time falling water was treated as a subject in ukiyo-e, and one of the earliest uses of the then-new Prussian blue pigment. Jaeger-LeCoultre released them a few at a time across 2021, 2022, 2023 and finally 2026, completing all eight. Each case-back is built from around fourteen layers of enamel fired successively, roughly 100 hours per watch, reproducing a composition at about 2 cm² — including the original Japanese inscriptions at near-microscopic scale.

### The Great Wave off Kanagawa

Ref. Q39334T1

2018

The first Hokusai on a Reverso, and not part of the waterfalls cycle — the most reproduced image in Japanese art, reduced to the size of a case-back.

### Kirifuri Waterfall at Kurokami Mountain, Shimotsuke

Ref. Q39334T2

2021

The first of the waterfalls series. “Kirifuri” means falling mist — the print shows tiny figures dwarfed by the cascade, a favourite Hokusai device for scale.

### The Amida Falls in the Far Reaches of the Kisokaidō Road

Ref. Q39334T3

2022

The most abstract print in the series: the water emerges from a near-perfect circle in the rock, said to resemble the head of the Amida Buddha.

### The Waterfall Where Yoshitsune Washed His Horse, Yoshino

Ref. Q39334T4

2023 · lozenge guilloché dial

A legend rather than a landscape: the warrior Minamoto no Yoshitsune washing his horse at the falls in Yamato Province.

### The Waterfall at Ono on the Kisokaidō Road

Ref. Q39334T5

2023 · barleycorn guilloché dial

A traveller’s view from the old Kisokaidō highway, one of the two great routes between Edo and Kyoto.

### Rōben Waterfall at Ōyama, Sagami Province

Ref. Q39334T7

2026 · barleycorn guilloché, walnut-brown enamel

Pilgrims purifying themselves beneath the falls at Ōyama — a site of ritual ablution, which Hokusai renders as bodies braced against falling water.

### Kiyotaki Kannon Waterfall at Sakanoshita, Tōkaidō

Ref. Q39334T8

2026 · wavy guilloché, emerald enamel

Named for the Kannon shrine beside it, on the Tōkaidō — the coastal road immortalised in Hiroshige’s fifty-three stations.

### Yōrō Waterfall in Mino Province

Ref. Q39334T6

2026

Subject of one of Japan’s best-known filial-piety legends, in which the falls run with sake for a devoted son.

### The Falls at Aoigaoka in the Eastern Capital

Ref. Q39331T9

2026

The eighth and final print — and an urban one, a waterfall inside Edo itself, closing a cycle begun eight years earlier.
