A gift in yellow gold whose surprise lay on the reverse: the engraved head of Newport, an Anglo-Arab horse foaled in 1982 and the last bred by his owner before his death. Injured in transport and left lame, Newport was spared on the instructions of the owner’s son, who put him out to pasture in his father’s memory. The horse recovered fully, became French three-day-eventing champion in 1992, competed at the Barcelona Olympics, and took second in the team event at the 1997 European championships.
